Astroworld Festival Leaves 8 Dead and Many Others Injured

According to Houston Fire Department (HFD), approximately two dozen people were rushed to hospitals, at least eleven of them were in cardiac arrest during transport. The youngest victim was only ten-years-old.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. when the crowd attending the music festival began pushing towards the stage. This caused concertgoers to panic and, unfortunately, fall. Some people became unconscious during this time, while others sustained other injuries.

A mass casualty incident was declared around 9:35 p.m. There were eight fatalities, at least seventeen severe injuries which required immediate transport to local area hospitals (eleven of which were associated with cardiac arrest). About three-hundred people received treatment on-scene at the field hospital.

It is also important to note that earlier in the day, there was another incident in which concertgoers breached a security gate, resulting in minor injuries.

Astroworld Festival is a music festival held in Houston, Texas. The festival is run by Travis Scott at NRG Park. The first festival was held in 2018 and has been held annually since (with the exception of 2020 due to the pandemic). In past years, the festival was one-day only; however, this year the event was expanded to a two-day event. The line-up for the November 5th event included the following: Travis Scott, SZA, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, Don Toliver, Toro y Moi, Yves Tumor, Master P, Metro Boomin (Drake also appeared in an unannounced performance with Scott). Additional performances were scheduled for the November 6th date; however, they were all canceled due to the incident the day before.
